Swift birds stay in flight sleeping, eating, mating, drifting at night high in our atmosphere 10 months out of a year. In their life time they fly the distance of to the moon and back five times over.
lyrics
We're not made to sit on fences
We can't perch on a wire
Once tumbled from the nest
We're on the wing forever
Skimming over dawn lit lakes
Gaping mouths stretched wide
Devouring the insects
On breezes where they ride
Wheeling, screaming, round church spires
Like the Devil's curses
Gathered tight in rising flight
We disappear at vespers
To sleep aloft, 6000 feet
We surf magnetic flow
We skirt the storms of August
And hurricanes below
We're off to Argentina
Mating on the way
Time to weave a nest
And tuck it in a cave
Each season's gift, a million swifts
Adrift in heavens dome
Above the clouds, so near the stars
The weather in our bones
